NJHS Induction Ceremony

Forty members of Henry H. Wells Middle School’s 8th grade class were inducted this morning into the National Junior Honor Society. They were celebrated by teachers, administrators, Board of Education members, friends and family.

NJHS was founded in 1929 with the purpose of creating enthusiasm for scholarship; stimulating a desire to render service; promoting leadership; encouraging responsible citizenship; and developing character in secondary school students–there are chapters in all fifty states and schools around the world.

After a Presentation of the Colors by BHS NJROTC members and the Pledge of Allegiance, Donna Pryce, the adviser to NJROTC and Principal Carlos Rodrigez congratulated students on their achievements and explained the five principles of NJHS membership: character, leadership, service, scholarship, and citizenship and the responsibilities that lay ahead.

The executive board of last year’s class, current ninth graders, then spoke to the inductees about how they can make a difference.

“You guys will do amazing things,” said former NJHS President Marjorie Palma Soto, “it’s all about working together and helping each other. Don’t be afraid to make new friends and stay positive and work hard.”

Superintendent Dr. Michelle Gosh told students, “Make a pledge to do one small kind thing a day. Sit next to someone who is sitting alone in the cafeteria, pick up a piece of trash, and smile. You don’t need to be perfect to make a difference.”
